Springsteen’s Broadway hit is coming to Netflix

Bruce Springsteen has a number of recent successes to add to his already overflowing career. He published his memoir Born to Run in 2016, which hit number one on the New York Times Best Seller list and his Springsteen on Broadway has been sold out since it first hit the stage. Now, Springsteen’s Broadway show is coming to Netflix.

Springsteen began his Broadway run in 2017 and will wrap up its final show in December of this year. Wrapping things up, Springsteen will finish with a total of 236 performances. According to Rolling Stone, the show was originally scheduled for an eight-week run and have been extended a number of times since its inception, and some wonder IF the December 15th show will be the end. There is always a possibility of Springsteen extending beyond the stage of Broadway.

Either way, Netflix has agreed to stream a performance of the one man show.  CCO Ted Sarandos remarked that Springsteen is “…a master storyteller, humanitarian, and the voice of Everyman.” Premiering in December, fans who haven’t seen this intimate concert in person will now have a chance to experience it.

Bruce Springsteen explains why he decided on Broadway for this show versus a larger venue,

“My vision of these shows is to make them as personal and intimate as possible. I chose Broadway for this project because it has the beautiful old theaters which seemed like the right setting for what I have in mind. In fact, with one or two exceptions, the 960 seats of the Walter Kerr Theatre is probably the smallest venue I’ve played in the last 40 years. My show is just me, the guitar, the piano and the words and music. Some of the show is spoken, some of it is sung, all of it together is in pursuit of my constant goal—to communicate something of value.”

Springsteen on Broadway continues through December 15th, 2018 and while many of the shows are sold out, it also has a ticket lottery where audience goers can purchase two tickets at $75 a piece through Lucky Seat. For anyone heading to New York this fall, Springsteen’s show is a great one to see. And, for those interested in an intimate night at home with the Boss, Netflix has the perfect venue.
