Another Brick In The Wall – The Operawill be presented in Cincinnati’s Music Hall beginning July 21st. An operatic happening to celebrate the 375th anniversary of Montreal: The Wall, Roger Waters’ mythical work, in lyric version. The Wall is a psychological drama inspired by Roger Waters’ life.

Ian Gillan, Ian Paice and Roger Glover were in Montreux, Switzerland on July 4th for the unveiling of a plaque at the entrance of the building where Deep Purple recorded “Smoke on the Water.” The song was inspired by the Montreux Casino fire on the night of a 1971 Frank Zappa concert.

Styx has returned the song to its show this summer after leaving it out of the setlist for many years — due to bad memories from the acrimonious Kilroy Was Here project in 1983, a concept album spearheaded by former singer-keyboardist Dennis DeYoung that polarized fans and led to a seven-year split of the band. Even now, guitarist James “J.Y.” Young tells Billboard that he’s ambivalent about the song, because of “all the bad things that went along with that record. It was just far off the mark from what I was interested in performing live — and we have plenty of material without it.” Read more…
